There are lots of wonderful sides that dance in London, and are accepting new dancers. We've put together a list of some of them below...
If you’d like to dance Cotswold morris (the style the Belles also dance)
Practice on Monday evenings in SE13
Dacre Morris were founded in 1981, but their roots go back even further and they’re connected to Blackheath Morris Ladies - Dacre are one of only three south east London sides surviving from the 1970s morris revival.
Practice on Wednesday evenings in SE1
New Esperance have been dancing for over fifty years in London, and dance in the suffragette colours of purple, gold, and green. Committed to being an inclusive women’s morris side before almost anyone else was thinking in those terms, New Esperance were named in honour of The Esperance Club, a huge feature of both morris history and the history of women’s suffrage.
If you’re interested in other types of morris too, we can also recommend
Practice on Wednesdays in E17
Blackhorse & Standard were founded in 1981 and dance northwest clog - a style characterised by detailed shifting formations of dancers and (of course!) the distinctive wooden-soled clogs.
(All three of these sides have at least one Belle who also dances with them, by the way!)
There are also some fantastic mixed sides in London who are very welcoming to new members like London Pride, Westminster Morris, or Quaggy Morris. Cecil Sharp House also run a morris class on Tuesday evenings in Camden, that are always welcoming to dancers with any level of experience.
Depending on where you live we may be able to help point you towards your most local side - let us know if you’d like help! The Morris Federation, The Morris Ring and the Open Morris all have webpages that can help you to find your local sides.
